cross stitch rulez!!!

i have several knitting projects in mind (especially the koigu kersti cardigan from the new vk), however my gigantic lack of fundage has led me to a long abandoned cross stitch project. i began this project, from mary engelbreit cross-stitch, in the fall of 1999. i completed the house and trees and then set it aside. i got the cross stitch urge a few days ago, and despite buying a fairly cute kit on sale at michael's, my heart led me back to this cutie (who was lying dormant in the bottom of my needlework drawer). i'm back in the swing of things and really looking forward to finishing (which will be a while from now. i'm about half done the center panel, and have a large and ornate border in my future). i was originally making this for my mom, but i think i'll end up keeping it for me.

i hope you forgive me for the lack of knitting content! in other news, the painting is STILL going. i think we're over the 50% hump, but that still leaves a lot of work. with hope, we'll be done soon. with hope. yesterday i did a glazed faux finish in the kitchen. i love how it turned out and for the first time i felt really excellent about our work. but. well. life isn't so good lately and the excellent feeling vanished quickly. i'm so enjoying having adam here with me, and when he leaves at the end of the project it will be devastating. i'm trying to not think about it, but... ah well!

at any rate, it is time to get a move on. enjoy your wednesday. xoxo.

did i say i'd update yesterday? i meant today. really. ahem.

anyway, here i am! adam is still sleeping and i have thirty minutes before i have to wake him for another rip-roarin' day of house painting. did i mention it was rip-roarin'? because boy, it sure is. aches and pains and work aside, i haven't really been knitting. i tend to be so tired when we get home that all i can do is straighten up, make supper and crash on the couch watching episodes of 'buffy the vampire slayer'. however! i have finished the tulip bag, felted and all:

it has a moderately wonky shape.

it has a wonky shape, in the middle. were i to knit this again, i would use a smaller sized needle for the seed stitch portions, and also, knit the cord a lot shorter than called for. it hardly felted in length at all. i ended up doing a little surgery. i'll probably never use this bag, but i do love it so.

i've also opted to crochet some flowers, some based on a zinnia pattern i've had bookmarked for ages, and one based on georgia's lovely pattern.

lions and tigers and flowers- oh my!
. njorah loved them so much, she asked to model the red one for the knitblog world. who am i to resist such a sweet little face?

my sweetie baby kitty

in other news, i'm in the middle of my second critter knit-a-thon blanket. i feel a little odd about donating to a shelter far away, so i think i'll knit or crochet a few extra and donate them to the shelter that housed njorah.

and i don't really have much else to report. so i think i'll have some toast and get prepared for the task of waking the sleeping beast. hope everyone has a beautiful tuesday. xoxo.

two days of house makeover complete, and we have a completed hallway and bathroom to show, as well as a wallpaper-less kitchen. word to the wise? those wallpaper steamer dealies? drip boiling water everywhere and in our expert opinions don't work all that well. so far, the work is hard (made harder by the dog fur and cigarette smoke filled house us allergic asthmatics are working in), but it feels good. i've only hurt myself once! i fell off a step stool whilst getting down, and moments later a giant blue hematoma popped out of my leg. ouch. it is so much better now, almost flush to the surface and a a yellowish black- it's healing really fast!

i haven't knit much- however, last thursday i did some koolaid dying and on friday began the fulled tulip bag i've been dying to make.

i'm still a major newbie (i hate that word) at fair isle

my stranding techniques still leave much to be desired, but i think i am getting better. i'm nearing the finish line of the bag, and i'm expecting to full it one night towards the end of the week. anyway, i have much to do before i wake adam, so i better get a move on. happy work week. xoxo.

okay, okay. photos!! first up: the pink and black (shocking colour choices, no?) fair isle-ish hat.

dorky snowflake fair isle hat.

i really need to work on my stranding techniques- the colourwork band is just a touch tighter than the rest of the hat, making the fit a bit funky. plus, i knit the dam thing too long and it looks funny on my head. hence, the uber stylish photo on the floor. second: i've knit another coif, this one in dark grey, for my dear friend melanie. she wanted to buy my domain renewal for me as a gift, but i refused the charity. so we struck a deal. i knit something of her choice, for the low low price of one domain renewal. did i mention that my friend melanie is dear?

i like this coif better than the pink one i knit myself.

here i am, modeling the coif. cute, isn't it? and third: i've started a generic toe up sock in regia short colour #5456.

pretty blue socks!

as you can see, i've obviously spent a lot of time working on this sock. ha ha.

there IS some good news in my life. the adam is coming in again tomorrow and staying for about two weeks. we've taken on the job of making over my mom's house, one room at a time. the pay is decent, it gives us something to do every day (aside from put out resume after resume and feel worthless) and we get to spend a couple weeks together. i'm really looking forward to it. i love painting and re-decorating. i still harbour childhood dreams of being a decorator, i suppose. Oh, and i got an 'A' on the second essay for my class. easy to say, this is one of the better weeks i've had lately. i'm going to take an hour or so and update my gallery and links, and then its chores. xoxo.

well, i'm touched that a few of you actually wondered where i was! that made me smile, for real. i've been here, just not really doing anything worth talking about. i haven't knit anything significant since i finished the last sweater- i did four dishcloths, worked on the second cable sock, started a toe up sock and now i'm knitting a simple colourwork hat, just to pass the time. my mood has been pretty low since last we spoke. adam ended up having to cancel the visit we were expecting, which led to a miserable weekend. nothing happened on the job front during the week which really really is starting to depress me. adam DID visit this last weekend, and we had a really wonderful time. we spent saturday helping my mom make some decorating decisions and then the two of us painted her powder room with a neat textured paint. i love that boy of mine. he is for sure one of the bright spots in my life right now. Unfortunately, he had to leave around 5am this morning, which had us up at 4:40am. i am SO tired. i think i'm going to get into bed shortly, and tomorrow i'll show you some photos of the hat and sock i've started. i think that sometime this week i'm going to pick up some kool-aid and a skein of lion brand fisherman's wool, and prepare to knit a bag i've been dying to knit and felt. there, now i have something to look forward to! hope everyone's week started off well. tell me something good, i need some cheering up. xoxo.
