after the rainbow socks, i was at a loss of what to do next- and then i realized i had a sock without a match. i had knit this sock last fall, late november, i believe. it was my second toe up sock EVER and has some very wonky parts, where i wasn't quite getting the double wrap thing down correctly. so today, i knit myself the match and now i have a pair.

sadly, though, i just don't feel like knitting tonight. none of my sock yarns are exciting me, i don't feel like starting anything else new. i think i'm in the end of the semester doldrums. i'm just not feeling up to par, friend/health/mind wise. so that'll explain me if i'm a little quiet over the next couple of weeks. adam says, 'how's my girl?' and i say, 'your girl needs a cuddle.' and that's about the best i can put it. at least the idol was excellent tonight. and on that note, be excellent to each other.

i had a beautiful healing weekend, and now i have a beautiful healing pair of socks.

i mean it, these socks make everyone smile. even my mom liked them. i'm feeling pretty good, if you excuse how tired i am, and the fact that i have two weeks left to finish a tooshieload of schoolwork (oh, and more of missing that boy). still totally stalled on the sweater. i wish i wasn't so university student poor right now, and it's a damn good thing i spent the last eight months stocking up on sock yarns - at least i can keep my hands busy. welcome to the working week. keep on smiling. blah blah blah.

it has been quite a quiet week over here, which is good, because i talk too much anyway.

i finished hippie sock #1 and cast on for sock #2, but the colour sequence was off by about two rows- so i ripped it and i'll start over today. i am, however, madly in love with this yarn. looking at it makes me giddy. so that is pretty much all i have to say right now. this sock-o-matic machine is signing off. happy weekend.

a sock by any other name is 'clown'. i prefer 'hippie'. whatever- these are the brightest and most colourful thing to ever enter my wardrobe, and just looking at them makes me smile. and i love smiling, and i don't do it enough. so hooray for the hippy socks. that's all for today. i'm a little tired and out of words.

sadly, the sweater is on hold until i can find more skeins of the right colour yarn. isn't the point of using cheap-o yarn that you can find it anywhere? regardless, adam loved his socks.

he also loves my cat, and he loves me.

i started a new pair of socks last night, no photos yet, but i'm using regia ringel clown. awesome. i miss my boyfriend. happy easter and passover.

so the socks are complete, i finished the second one in brit/irish lit (after my professor had me read the world war one poem about knitting aloud), and i am just thrilled indeed to have them done. good old bigfoot will arrive sometime tonight for the presentation ceremony.
other good news: i got an A on that 12 page monster i wrote last week. how awesome is that?
sadly, however, i did lose one of my size 2 bryspun dpns- my favourite sock knitting needles. i need to go to the yarn shoppe to purchase some irish-y green yarn (my professor complained that i haven't knit her anything yet, so i'm going to make her a hat or mittens), so hopefully they'll have some size 2s in stock. okay. it's cleaning time. have a beautiful weekend!

thank goodness my family only has one seder during passover, i don't think i could handle another night like last. i managed to get a ton of work done on adam sock #2 after cleaning and cooking, after dinner, and during the hockey game (hooorah avalanche!!). i only have about four inches left to knit, i can see the light at the end of the endless cuff tunnel.
as i was at my mom's house last night, i wasn't working on 3xChic- everything i take there captures the smell of smoke, and i hate that. i haven't gotten very far, just a few inches- but hey- even rome wasn't built in a day.

so that's about it for me. i'm off to school in a few moments, i have to spend the evening backing up my desktop computer in anticipation of the big re-format headed my way, as well as a little tidying in honour of adam's visit. hope everyone is having a lovely week. happy matzoh week.

everyone knows what a half knit sock looks like, especially when it's identical to the one just documented. so i will spare my tens of adoring fans the sock, until the pair is complete. i should be done by my weekend deadline, no problem- provided i don't become too distracted by the sweater i started tonight! because, you know, it was 84f out today. that is sweater weather. doh. i decided it was time to overcome my fear, and as i have a gigundo collection of homespun- i started the 3xChic from knitty#1. it doesn't look like much yet, but lisa told me to go ahead and post photos (ps. check her site, she just finished the most adorable summer top!). so i give you, rachel's 3xChic:

tomorrow is the first day of passover, and right after classes, i'm heading up to cleveland to help mom prepare the house. we're having something like 15 people over for dinner, i'm charged with setting the table and making the mashed potatoes. i'm having a bit of a quandary about observing the fast this year. i can't eat anything with soy or wheat by products, which removes 99% of my daily vegetarian diet. i'm sure i'll figure SOMETHING out, but woman cannot live on matzo alone, and remain healthy. i'm sure i'll figure it out.
lastly, right after school i rushed to the store to purchase a dvd copy of 'spirited away', which was/is probably the best movie i've seen in a million years. i'm tired, but i'm going to give it a watch before i go to sleep. this and spring (despite my allergy to the whole state of ohio) make me very happy.
goodnight!

a crappy photo it is, as my el cheapo ancient camera does not have the wide angle lens required for such a gigantic sock, but, a photo nonetheless. adam sock #1 is complete, i'm nearly done the toe of sock #2, if i work hard, i will be completed these two magnificent monsters for the feet by the weekend, when mr. canada himself is set to (once again, barring for freak acts of nature) arrive here at my home for a weekend of veggie chili and snuggling. i spent the day at my mother's house yesterday, helping her figure out how to redecorate and paint (i blame all the trading spaces and while you were out that i watch), and my older brother looked at me and said, 'you're going to be on tv someday'. ha ha, no i won't, dear brother, the camera adds ten pounds!! i treated myself to a clothing shopping trip. i spent more money than originally planned, but for once, i could actually afford to gear up a tiny bit for spring and summer, clothes wise. plus! i only bought ONE black shirt, thus meaning, i will be wearing colours once again this summer. i also tripped in her driveway and hurt my poor left foot, i don't like walking very much now, and i wonder if it is a viable excuse for NOT going to school today. ha ha ha. i doubt it. and as the time runs itself to 8am, i figure, i better get moving. so farewell for today, until we meet again, and everyone, go see how kerstin is attacking the far right of knitblogging with wit, humor and just the right amount of snark.

i had declared today 'spring cleaning day', and as i survey the room surrounding me, i wonder how i manage to accumulate SO MUCH STUFF. i suppose that i will get jumping on the cleaning (read: throwing everything away that isn't nailed down) in a little while, which should keep me occupied all day long. at least i have passed the turning of the heel on adam sock #1 and have begun the endless stretch of leg.

so at any rate- happy weekend!

thanks to all two people who voted, i have indeed decided to go with the second photo. adam has looked, given his approval, and showered me with the praise i so greatly desire. also, eleven pages and three thousand six hundred words later, my essay is complete. so i only had an hour or so of knitting time, and here is my progress. happy wednesday!

so today i managed to get a good start on the re-knit of adam sock #1 (amy informs me that this particular yarn is called 'ontario' which i find oh so fitting). my brit and irish lit professor (the one who assigned this mammoth essay) said she is quite fond of the colour way, as well as my uber skinny scarf. i can't decide, however, which side should be the top of this sock. lisa says the second photo, and i'm just not sure. advice, comments, etc? anyway. here are photos, hope everyone's tuesday is super, and i'm off to finish the essay.

sadly, adam was unable to make it to ohio this weekend. the GTA was attacked by an ice storm and the boy couldn't even get his car out of the driveway to run his errands, let alone drive in the apocalypse to come see me. however, things started melting early on saturday and we were able to salvage what was left of the weekend, by one of our loving little overnighters in erie, pennsylvania. it's pretty much our halfway point, and last year when we never had a free weekend to spend together, we'd steal away for a night and cozy up in erie, pa. i thusly, didn't knit at all- but i did play a lot of UNO (and there is NO online version of the game for us to play). and then today, i spent my whole day writing the first four pages of a ten page essay due thursday. i was a woman determined. so when i finally sat down to finish the spring scarf, i saw that my cat had laid her cute fat tooshie on the oh so brittle 30 years plus old plastic needles and had snapped on in half. and when trying to tie a rubber band on the end to make it more secure for my stitches, it snapped again. so i knit the last seven inches with one full size needle and one 4" needle. ha ha. but anyway, before i get started on re-knitting the toe of adam's regia ontario sock, here is the spring scarf and me wearing it.

i managed to have a really great week. lots of exercise, some great grades, and adam is supposed to visit this weekend. i'm still knitting away on the olive/magenta scarf. i'm so in love with it, and it might come in handy if i was in the greater toronto area- for they are having some nasty weather (sorry megs!) and i am having beautiful 70 degree days with faint breezes. who'd have thought i'd be happier to be in ohio? ha ha. so for your viewing pleasure today, i give you two gifts. one, the sock i'm beginning for adam, using regia 4ply jacquard in colour 5266. he picked it out himself, and i'm doing them on size ones....

i'm having a touch of a gauge problem- it seems that i have way too large of a sock to make with this yarn and the pattern yarn only seems to cover one round. so i'm going to keep going, and worst to worst, i'll pull it out and refigure the sucker. and secondly, i looked beside me to my sleeping cat, and found this adorable scene.

she's lying on a ball of kool-aid dyed sock yarn i was considering swatching tonight and my measuring tape, and the yarn on her head, i swear i did not place there. it was the waste yarn from my provisional cast on and i have no idea how she managed to wrap it around her head. but it was so cute, i had to immortalize her. and lastly- while on my morning walk today, a bird pooped on my head (forehead and glasses). if i remember correctly, that means good luck, but also? eww. tomorrow is a mental health/rachel is doing very well at school/she also can't see her carpet day, so i'm staying home for a little sleeping in and cleaning. and then? weekend and (weather permitting) my wonderful adam.
