well, hello there blog fans! did you miss me? i had a few days of life getting in the way- but things are calm and normal now and my life has resumed it's mundane day to day blahness (i.e. no job, ability to hurt myself everytime i stand up, etc etc etc). the exciting thing is that i started knitting a sweater! i'm doing pattern 23 from the winter 03/04 fcek, but no stripes- instead it is a beautiful heathery green (plymouth encore chunky).

i have issue with how the pattern writer wrote said pattern, but between lisa's brain and my judgment, i think we figured it out. unfortunately, i really have to put it aside for the today so i can write an essay. but yay! new sweater! also, i think i could substitute the encore chunky for banff! and i found a source online that'll sell me 10 balls for 35$. so i might go ahead and do that, for i REALLY want to knit banff while its still cold out.
and that about wraps it up for me. i promise i'm going to try to get back to updating daily- or at least every other day. really. i'll try! xoxo.

ok, i'm on the mend, sort of. i still can't keep anything down, but hey- i've lost ten pounds!! (okay, to be fair only a few of those were FP related, the others were the 'watching what you're eating/don't snack at night' diet related).
first of all:

that is the first 'elegant gauntlet' (from 'the purl stitch'), in koigu kppm p117. it is delicious and yummy and warm and soft and i love it. gauntlet number two is only a few inches long, but i'll spare you the in progress shot.
that is all for now, i'll actually be funny and witty in a few days, when i'm fully recovered. thank you for your well wishes! xoxo.

my name is rachel, and i am now addicted to koigu. it has been five minutes since i last touched my knitting.
no really. i bought this koigu last month- a total splurge. after talking with megs, i decided i would go ahead and use it to knit sally melville's 'elegant gauntlets' - from the purl stitch (which i bought with a chanukah gift certificate). i LOVE this yarn. love, like in a sonnet. see?

.i did some adjusting, to make do for my tiny arms. i seriously have very short forearms. 3/4 length sleeves? full length on me. ah well. but i'm in love. LOVE, i tell you- love. ahem.
tomorrow, however, is the once a month 'shit, my boyfriend is visiting and my apartment is a disaster' cleaning day. he won't arrive til late late late, so i have all day to do laundry and vacuum, etc. i'm off to bed. i'll leave you with a photo of my baby kitty, njorah.

on sunday, i boycotted life and the result was a slightly more positive outlook on life and a shocking pink coif, (in shocking pink, of course).

i tend to wear it around the house, but tied under my hair, more like bandana type item. it was a really fast and easy knit, though. i think it only took three or four hours total, including making supper.
now i'm back to focusing on the nearly finished baby blanket, while i pathetically search for a job. i'm getting desperate.
as for the stitch pattern used for meg's birthday scarf, if you have the 365 knitting stitches a year calendar you'll find the patter on january 11. it is a simple eyelet lace pattern. it goes a little something like this:
multiple of 3 plus 2.
row 1: knit.
row 2: purl.
row 3: k2 *YO, K2tog, K1; repeat from * to end.
row 4: purl.
repeat to desired length. simple, and it really looks lovely.
and with that i'm off to make some matzoball soup (from the mix, totally vegetarian!), and knit my night away. happy tuesday.

i realized i'd never posted a photo of the scarf i made for my friend megan. it was her birthday on boxing day, and though we'd agreed to put off christmas gifts until i could afford one, i couldn't let her birthday go too. so, i picked an eyelet lace pattern, some lionbrand microspun (which is actually a really lovely yarn) i had in my 'stash', and got knitting. i love this scarf, and thankfully, megs loved it too. so here you go, the hot pink birthday scarf!

hi folks!! how is everyone doing? i'm okay. i've managed to keep this cold from becoming something worse- that's how things tend to work with me- and i'm on the mend, finally. in the meantime, i've been working on a beautiful secret baby blanket for yet another fertile friend of mine. no photos on the off chance leesa happens by this page before the blanket is safely in her hands. but i have to say that i am really enjoying this project. i've pretty much created this all on my own, and i'm proud. whooo hooo!
other than knitting and being sick, not much else is going on in my life. i'm hunting for a job, which is very frustrating, and low on fundage (also frustrating). earlier this week, i did receive a box containing all of my grandmother's knitting and needlework whathaveyous. i have, to start, more needles than i could ever know what to do with- two complete bernat needle sets in zippy cases, a tin full of circulars, a zippy bag full of misc needles, a baggie of misc crochet hooks, a full set of bernat crochet hooks in a zipped case, pins, needles, gauge checkers, etc etc etc. i also inherited her needlepoint leftovers- several old unfinished canvases, lots of embroidery floss, pearl cotton and needles and so on. my grandmother is still alive- thank goodness, but my dad has just moved my grandparents to a nursing home in new york, and was left with the job of packing up their old apartment. grandma hasn't knit or needlepointed in at least 9 years, so all of her goodies were just languishing in the closet. i'm very fortunate, indeed.
and that is pretty much all there is. once i'm done this blanket i would really like to knit the banff pattern from knitty and a fantastic fulled bag from a norwegian pattern. that is all pending more cash coming into my life. but a girl can dream!! and that is all for now. i think it is just about time to settle in for my nightly adam phone call. xoxo.
