excessive photo day:
i arrived home last night, and instead of doing anything i should have done, i started knitting a scarf for spring. a skinny little affair (it'll be the only thing remotely skinny about me) out of my ever favourite phentex merit. i plan on making this sucker about 8-10 feet long, depending on my patience, but the 2x2 rib certainly wears on me after a few feet. anyway, here is the lovely spring scarf:

next, i have a short project that will turn into a birthday gift for my sister, emily. she'll be 5 in two weeks, and while letting me knit (mostly) in peace last week, she repeatedly requested a scarf of her very own. a scarf for dress up. so i purchased yarn for said scarf today:

and lastly, i did finish the toe of crusoe socks, pattern inspiration: 98% knitty (and the curmudgeon), 1% wendy (and her toe-up pattern), and 1% my own thinkin'!

i did start adam's socks, but i think three rows of a toe up sock isn't all that exciting, so i'll spare you. i'm home and slightly cranky, this place needs a cleaning. i'm planning my 'future' and it's freaking me out. i'd rather stick to knitting. oh! and i went swimming today. welcome home from spring break, everyone.

and here i am in suburbia. last night i finished toe of crusoe sock number two, wove in those ends and proudly wore them for ten minutes. i said 'look daddy! i finished my socks!'. he, of course, nodded and went back to his emails. but i was proud. i love these socks. i love adam for letting me make something for myself instead of doing his, like i'd planned. today, i'm going to join my stepmom for a ride into the city. it's too bad that a) i have no idea where any yarn shops are, and b) that i have no money. ah well. it'll be nice to walk around for a while. so that's it for today. photos whence i return to ohio, and tonight i start adam's regia socks. la la la. happy wednesday.

i've decided that it would be in my best interest to not bring my computer with me, on my march break. my dad has a computer that i can use for email checks and whatnot, so i won't be completely out of touch, but no photo updates until sunday, march 30. by then, i'll be well on my way on a pair of regia socks for adam, since i am about three inches from being done the second crusoe sock (i tried to finish it last night, but life got in the way). (you can always reach me by email, the link is over on the side) so happy march break to me, happy spring to everyone else. xoxo.

since my life (and by 'my life', i mean my knitting weblog) revolves around a sock (see comments on last entry), i felt that i was unable to update this website until i had something to show for myself. and today? today i am a proud woman. for my midterms are to be completed tomorrow, and so far i've done exceptional on them (if i do say so myself). the horrible jr high style project has been turned in, and- at noon tomorrow i am officially on vacation. and. and. and. toe of crusoe part one is complete and i have pictures to prove it. i've received a lot of compliments on this one, and a lot of comments about how small my feet must be (if i were a guy, i might be insulted, for the size of a man's socks determines the size of his shoes). i have to study for that last test tonight, but i just might treat my (very sick sick self) to casting on for toe of crusoe sock two! we'll see, i really do feel like poo. and now, the moment you've all been waiting for.
THE SOCK

and, before i forget to mention. my precious adam has brought his website back with a little humorous political commentary! go visit, and tell him i sent ya'.

and i am returned from canada, and i wish that i wasn't returned from canada because i like it there, and i was told if i moved there? i get kitties. anyway, meg picked up knitting (and purling) like a champ, and she really seemed to enjoy the process. i'm so excited. i like to knit things for people, but i'd rather teach them to knit for themselves. like that whole teaching a man to fish will feed them for life saying. anyway. i was so busy having so much fun that i did not finish sock number one, however, i am about two and a half inches from being done, and hopefully i'll be done tonight (allergies, sore throat, sinus headache and acid reflux allowing). and now? photos! sock near completion and a close up of the stranding stitch.

hope everyone else had a lovely weekend and i only have five days until march break. i can make it. i can make it. i can make it.

oh today was a rotten day, rotten day, rotten day (maybe i'm singing that, and maybe i'm not....). the good thing is, i managed to knit quite a lot on toe of crusoe part one.

tomorrow, just after 11am, i'll be heading up to the great white north for a weekend of healing with the adam. also, i'm going to teach my sweet meg to knit! neither of us can wait, for she needs more distracting activities, and i need a new knitting accomplice. so no photo updates until monday, i hope you can cope. have lovely weekends everyone. and as for me? if i'm still this ill next week? heads will roll. xoxxo.

after three starts and some cursing towards math, i had a sock epiphany this morning while i was walking to class. it is entirely possible that i said 'oh!!!', outloud, but there was no one around to hear. toe-up. i don't really like knitting socks from the cuff down, i was having serious gauge math issues since i'm using a smaller yarn (regia 4ply, colour number 5033) and as i understand, the pattern base is a group of four stitches, which means i'd have to calculate a multiple of four, cast on, and then i'll be on my way! and so, calculate i did, provisional cast on of thirty two stitches and now i have a toe!

i feel much better about the sock now, and i figure it's just a variation. the toe of crusoe, or something equally lame. at any rate, i'm still feeling crappy and i have yet to edit my lit for young adults midterm essays. so i'll be on my way now. happy halfway through this week.
(ps. i got my glasses in hong kong last summer and if something happened to them, i'd probably cry for hours and hours. material i am not, but those are some stylish frames. thanks!)

and so, gauge is a bugger, and i had to rip and i haven't had the chance to recalculate for the yarn i choose and possibly a different needle size. that blasted school getting in the way, along with more health problems. last i checked i was only twenty three. i thought i was supposed to be in the prime of life. if this is the prime of life? man, i must have some serious third degree burns in my future! at any rate, since i have no knitting progress, i thought i'd give you a quick peak at my face. i hate photos of myself a lot, and i almost never smile in them, but i took this for a friend the other night and well, this is what i look like.

i'm off to calculate me a sock pattern. gooooood night.

my website has been a great vanishing one this weekend. ugh, a headache i am not so inclined to even deal with. i had better things to attend to, like dinner with friends last night, finishing the super secret socks today (but no photo until next week, when lisa receives them). i managed to straighten up a bit (both literally in my apartment, and metaphorically inside my head) and i do not feel quite prepared for this next week (with two more midterms and catching up from being sick), but i am prepared to make something for myself, and that something is the crusoe socks from knitty.

i started tonight, and i didn't make it far, but the pattern repeat is very easy to memorize and i love how it looks. and now, i must write a quick email to a professor, and take my large rear and my fat cat to bed. xoxo, happy new week.

once again, no actual progess shots, because lisa would see. i did finish super secret sock #1, and i'm done the toe of sock two. my life has (slightly) gotten in the way of relaxation and other happy activities, but there is always an upside and that upside is i'm going to the yarn store tomorrow. i'm eating french fries for dinner. i have the cutest cat in the world. so for today, i give you a photo of my jezzebelle. one of the cushions on my couch is covered in books and notebooks (all school related), and the princess wanted to sit next to me, so she made herself comfortable on top of everything and was just tooo cute to not take photos of. so here you go. see you tomorrow!

i can't show my knitting progress today, as all i'm working on right now is the super secret lisa sock. i'm about two inches from completion on sock one, so hopefully i'll cast on for sock two in the morning, or else i won't get to it until friday afternoon (i have an essay to write tomorrow night. blah.). tonight has been all about feeling sorry for myself. i have had quite the solitary pity party going on over here tonight. and now i am asking for your help. once i complete lisa's socks, i plan on taking some time to make something for myself (the knitty crusoe socks). i can't afford the koigu yarn, so these are my choices, which do you think? kroy fancy free (the pink valentine-y looking yarn) or the regia 4ply?

wish me luck on the essay tomorrow night. happy almost thursday.

before i left for class this morning, i checked my mailbox. inside was a package key! and i stood there for five minutes trying to open all the locked package lockers with the key, with no luck. i felt pathetic, and also like giving up. just below my row of boxes, was a locker that HAD a key in it, and the door was slightly ajar, i peeked. my package was lying there within. it was a lovely lovely thank you present from the lovely lovely jen of me and mine. it held two of my most favourite things in the world: popcorn and sock yarn (and a yummy candle).

i also finally made some real progress with lisa's super secret sock number one. turned the heel and made it a few inches up the leg. hopefully, as this is my only real project until schoolwork calms down, i should be finished both socks by the end of next week. fingers crossed.
also, this is disturbing me greatly. has anyone else seen the virgin mobile phone commercials featuring 'please do not go' by the violent femmes? weird marketing. good song.

and home i am from canada. i really do like it so much better there. the company is top-notch and even if members of parliament think i'm just one of the 'stupid bastards' under the heading of 'american', i do believe i'll make my existence a bit more permanent there within the next few years. highs of the weekend include the ontario science center, yummy sushi and cheap acrylic yarn that i love:

(the photo doesn't do the colours justice, a beautiful olive green, shocking magenta and dark wine) more sock yarn for dyeing, and spending three lovely nights with my steady sweetie, adam. lows include coming home. boo-urns to that. i was however, pleased as can be to see the new knitty, as was everyone else on the planet. i'm already planning to make the crusoe socks, as soon as i finish lisa's super secret ones. welcome to the week. i hope it's good because i'm a sad trooper, home alone with adam so far away.
