I was just looking for a way to make the simple staircase on the way up to Jake’s sleep loft really just POP! It had to be something that would be “acceptable” to a teenage kid who EATS, SLEEPS and BREATHES music so I asked him to help come up with an idea. We decided to go with his favorite bands!

In Jake’s bedroom a small staircase led to a blank canvas of unused space.  We decided to make it into a sleeping loft so that the majority of his bedroom could be used for fun activities. It wasn’t any major renovation, just a simple decorating project. We installed wainscotting on one wall, built a small closet w/door (not shown), and painted the walls Sherwin Williams SW-6991 Black Magic and SW-7501 Paper White

Wooden shelves to the left of the bed were painted glossy white.

The mural (Jake’s request) was handpainted by me using assorted Acrylic Paints.  When the moon was dry i covered it in two coats of Rustoleum Specialty Glow in the Dark paint.  It is almost clear, just has a slight yellow tinge when dry, which was just fine in this application since the moon is yellow anyway.

The decorating was finished off with some textiles from Pottery Barn and a throw picked up on our last trip to Disney World.  Finally, we added some Jack Skellington posters on the wall, an alarm clock and a small 22″ television.

Now Jake has an awesome sleep loft that allows him to keep the majority of his room space for hanging out with friends, keeping all of his guitars and music equipment and …. of course, GAMING. lol.

I’ll add a few more photos as time permits…
